Nice idea--then of course, I prefer a desk with nothing on it, so perhaps this is just my preference.

Similar idea to WriteRoom, which has been around for a while. I use the PC version, DarkRoom. It's a bit less sophisticated but I like the all black screen, it really works when I need to focus on producing a text.
The sounds in Ommwriter are interesting, too bad I can't try it on my PC :-/

I've used Ommwriter for one project so far and love it. At first I wanted to be able to bold or italicize things, but then you grow to appreciate the limitation of just being able to write. Quite relaxing actually.

I use it for all my papers.
Also, there's a way to get safari to go fullscreen so you're really immersed in the text (also, make sure to turn off spell-checking).
